Reserve Bank of India

The Reserve Bank of India was established in 1 April 1935 by the Reserve Bank of India Act 1934. Initially the office was in Calcutta, but after 1937 the Reserve Bank of India office was shifted in Mumbai. The RBI is fully controlled by Government of India. Reserve Bank of India handles the activities of Bank Notes and keeping as well as monitoring to operate the currency and credit system of India. The Reserve Bank of India performs this function under the guidance of the Board for Financial Supervision (BFS). The BFS wae came in action in 1994 as a committee of the Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India. The objective of RBI is to control the financial sector, commercial banks and non-banking finance companies.
