Poverty in India is to be defined when a number of peoples are unable to satisfy the basic needs of life The poverty scenario of country is much euphoric growth rate of Gross Domestic Product seems to be a partial success .The poverty definition may be difference in country to country. According to an expert group of Planning Commission, poverty line in rural areas are drawn with an intake of 2400 calories in rural areas and 2100 calories in urban areas. If the person is unable to get that minimum level of calories is considered as being below poverty line. The Planning Commission made a survey for finding out the number of persons below poverty line and estimated that 18.96% of the total peoples live below poverty line as of the year 1993-94. The poverty in India categories in two parts first one is rural and second is urban.
